A Word About MLM
First of all let me say that I really like MLM programs, I have been involved in two of them myself for while I have come to the following conclusion. There is one main problem that all MLM distributors face.
The problem is developing a real attachment to the product line. MLM distributors talk about this and the company certainly encourages it.
Generally what happens is distributors do try the product and convince themselves that it’s the greatest thing in the world. They are smart enough to understand that nobody makes any money if people are not using the product and selling it on the retail level.
The primary attachment for the product at this point is based around the desire to make more money. The distributor is in love with the compensation plan and the possibilities it holds for them.
Some people get involved in an MLM program with the dream of quitting their jobs and working for themselves full time. Others are perfectly happy to earn a couple extra hundred dollars a month so they can pay a few bills.
What ends up happening is they become users of the product so they can set a good example for their down line. However many of the products that network marketing companies offer are not products that you would use naturally if you were not involved in the business opportunity.
This creates a real retention problem when distributors are not able to enroll or sponsor new distributors underneath them. Because they got involved in the opportunity to make more money it becomes hard to justify continuing to spend money on the product when no money is coming in.
There really is one simple solution to this problem. Only join an MLM company that offers products you would use naturally without changing anything you are doing.
This makes it hard to justify join nutritional MLM programs. Many people are interested in improving their health. However they are not interested in spending $50-$100 month on a product that may or may not actually be helping him.
So what happens is when they are not actually making money in their network marketing business they quit using the product because they cannot justify the expense. The product itself did not do what they had hoped to do from a business standpoint.
This is what I see as the number one problem with MLM programs today. You simply solve that problem by only joining programs that offer products you know you would use even if you never make any money on it!
